It was some year in the 2000s and that means some new technology is coming out. That is a questionable technology in my opinion. But this was a great thought.
What is it
You have heard of DVDs before right? You just take the DVD and turn it into a blue ray. The Blu-ray is a digital optical disc data storage and it wants to kick DVDs to the back burner. It is about 4.7 in diameter and .047 in thick and it the violet laser to read the disc.
First titles
Some of the first titles that were released on Blue-ray were the following:
- 50 first dates
- The Fifth Element (Great show)
- Hitch
- House of Flying Daggers
- Underworld: Evolution
- xXx (great show)
- Twister
- The Terminator
They have used MPEG-2 video compression and they fit on 50 GB dual-layer discs.
HD DVD
There were was another option out there and it was HD DVD and it also played on the dual-layer discs. Warner Brothers put out both HD DVD’s and Blue Ray’s, but that came to an end. As the following stores stopped selling the HD DVDs:
- Best Buy
- Walmart
- Circuit City (Gone)
- Future Shop (Gone here in the USA)
- Woolworths
Netflix and blockbuster DVD rental didn’t they would no longer carry HD DVDs.
They say that 44% of broadband households had a Blu-ray player in 2016.
