It was the year in the newly formed 21 century and three former PayPal employees created something called YouTube and then later sold it to Google for $1.65 billion. What exactly is this new service?
YouTube
In 2004 the halftime show at the Superbowl featured Janet Jackson and the incident where the wardrobe slip. I missed it, I was fixing a computer. Then the tsunami, in the Indian Ocean. Jawed Karim was looking for a video clip of the two events. So why not create a video sharing site so that people could share videos. The inventors thought of it as an online dating service you know the hot or not site that led to Facebook. So they thought that the users could upload any type of videos, just not dating videos.
After some initial investment of $11.5 Million and the website, www.youtbue.com was activated and the first video on the site was titled Me at the zoo.
The first video to reach a million views was Nike video.
Overtime
Here is the breakdown of how many hours of video uploaded every minute.

- 2013

- 2014
- 300 hours
- 2017

800 million views or unique visitors every month. It is said, that in the year 2000 YouTube consumed about as much bandwidth as the WHOLE internet. That is a lot of bandwidth.
Other sites
There was a website called utube.com and it was being overloaded for people looking for the other website. They filed a lawsuit against YouTube. The company Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment later changed its name to utubeonline.com. Sad a company and to change a website name so that they didn’t get overloaded for people looking for videos.
What it has become
The website has become a great place for people to share their videos of places they have gone to. Like Travel bloggers or video bloggers. There is no shortage of videos about this. I even have a YouTube Channel, there isn’t anything on it at the moment. All my videos are on Vimeo. There is no shortage of videos of anything you would like to know about or how to do. You have to abide by certain rules and guidelines and no copyright stuff.
Opinion
Well, YouTube is a great place to see how things are done and places you would like to go to. I have seen countless videos about places I would like to go to. Then I can see what I would love to go to when I travel to that area or place. It is a great place to show things on there. There are reasons I haven’t uploaded videos to YouTube yet. I am not going to get into that here. But it is a great service.
